Make Your Packaging Perfect
We’ve written before about the importance of building a strong personal brand and professional image for yourself – and if we haven’t made it clear yet, we think it’s very important! But obviously branding is an enormously important issue for businesses, too. Building a consistent brand image can make a business of any size stand out from the crowd.
If you’re a business owner, you’ve probably thought about the traditional ways to reach customers and express your brand at the same time – like brochures, business cards, tradeshows, and more. But have you really thought about every touch point with your customers? And we don’t mean the touch of your hand when you shake on that new deal you struck!
I’m talking about all the ways you interact with and communicate with customers. One way that often goes unnoticed for small or new retail businesses is packaging. That’s right – how you present your goodies to customers before and after they’ve made a purchase. Because you can’t always be there in person to serve as the smiling face of your business, the packaging has to speak for you!
There are two great ways to incorporate your brand into your packaging:
- When you’re shipping something, consider custom labels. Typically, these are used as return address labels, with your logo/image and address. But you can also get creative! What if you used them instead to brand your boxes? You can upload your own design with your logo, add a website address or phone number and use them more like a sticker to brand the box.
- If you’re selling a product in a store, consider creating custom-designed tags. These are easy to make in bulk and a great addition to any product or package. You simply create a grid in PowerPoint or a word processing program, fill in each box with your product name or company message, print, hole punch and then loop some twine or string through the hole to tie them on. I did something similar for a wedding favor, which you can read about here.
