Round-Up: School’s Out! Summertime Activities
The summer has arrived in Dallas! Despite our hot temps, it’s one of my favorite seasons and I absolutely love spending time on fun, easy, summer-related projects.
I know many of you are looking for ways to keep your kids occupied while school’s out, so I thought I’d share some of the great activities I’ve come across in my search for new ideas:
- FreeKidCrafts.com offers tons of ideas for a variety of ages, and you can search by season, holiday, topic, etc. One of my favorites for summer is the CD sun catcher, which you can decorate and hang with fishing line.
- Somehow, tie dye is a trend that never seems to ‘dye.’ Get it? Anyway, kids will love getting hands-on with T-shirts, placemats and more and creating designs with their favorite colors. The DIY Fashion section of About.com offers nice step-by-step instructions complete with pictures.
- Real Simple’s DIY Lincoln Logs are a great project for nurturing your budding architect– and recycling your old paper tubes.
- And finally, if the summer heat starts to get to you, remember the one place that allows you to “escape” it all – your local library! Help your kids get an early start on their school’s required reading list or join one of the programs that many libraries offer in the summer months. PublicLibraries.com can help you find the best location, while women’s-focused blog Blisstree recommends book-themed art projects to complement your library adventures.
